Jesus IS the Truth

Eyewitness Stories: John 8:18,19; 30,32
Amplified Bible (AMP) John 15: 1,4
In Your Bible: John 8; 11; 14:6-11

Jesus came down from the Mount of Olives and entered the temple to teach. But he encountered several Pharisees who challenged his authority to teach. However, we know Jesus IS the truth.

Jesus is the Truth

The leaders of the Jews came to Jesus asking him to justify how he could bear witness of himself. A really a good question! Jesus answered, “By your own Law, the testimony of two witnesses verifies the truth. I can verify on my own behalf, and the Father who sent me, is the second witness” (John 8:18,19 Eyewitness Stories). The leaders could not believe or grasp this at all.

We know from the written Word, Jesus is the perfect expression of truth not merely ethical truth. The truth of God is indicative of his faithfulness to fulfill his promises to the believer. Sadly the Jewish leaders did not see Jesus as the Truth as we know it.

“But as he said these things in the treasury of the temple, many put their faith in him. To those who believed” [really believed in their heart], Jesus said, “If you keep following what I say, you really are my disciples. And you will know the truth and the truth will make you free” (Eyewitness Stories John 8:30-32).

The True Vine

Jesus makes a parallel between staying connected with Jesus/God/the Father and a fruit bearing vine. Jesus says, “I AM the True Vine and My Father is the Vinedresser” (John 15:1 AMP). He addresses how to live in a poignant manner, saying, “Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will Live in you] John 15:4 AMP).

The Way, the Truth, and the Life dwell in you. Yes, Jesus IS the truth.

Prayer: Father, thank you for showing me that nothing aside from you is absolute truth.

Questions: How do you connect the thought of the Way, the Truth, and the Life with the True Vine?

Jesus’ Prayer in John 17

Part three of a series.

“I do not pray for you to take them out of the world, but that you would protect them from that which is evil” (John 17:15 Eyewitness).

Eyewitness: p. 232
In Your Bible: John 17:13-19

Jesus continued in prayer to the Father. He has protected the disciples from the hazards of the world. He showed them how to resist the devil, how to heal infirmities, and how to comfort those who resist God. Then Jesus released them to his Father’s hands. Believers stay behind so Jesus’ purpose would be fulfilled.

Abundant Joy

Jesus states none have been lost under his protection except one [Judas]. His desire is for the disciples [and all who follow] to have abundant joy because of what he taught and showed them – God’s message. All these who are mine belong to you, and all who are yours belong to me, so they may bring me glory (John 17:10 THE MESSAGE).

Consecrated by Truth

Make them holy – consecrated – with the truth; Your word is consecrating truth. In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world. I’m consecrating myself for their sakes So they’ll be truth – consecrated in their mission (John 17:17-19 THE MESSAGE).

When Jesus prayed he showed great intent: All believers to be holy, consecrated, and to help others find God.

Application: God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus/the Word are consecrators – holy makers! Stated here, the believers mission is to bring others to Jesus.

Prayer: Father, thank you illuminating words of life. They make us holy and consecrated – set apart for you. I want others to know this deep joy.

Question: Why do you suppose God did not take believers out of the world?  What does holy mean to you? Have you considered believers holy and set apart for His work?
